Crystal Care

Crystals are used to soothe the mind, body and soul. They act on an energetic level, sending natural vibrations out into the world. The first thing you should do when your beautiful tribal crystal finally arrives in the mail is to cleanse it. But why? And how? Read on to discover some simple ways we recommend to cleanse your tribal crystals.

Crystals hold the energetic charge of anyone and anything they have ever come in contact with, both positive and negative, and because your crystal has travelled a long way from source to seller before it has arrived to you, it has probably been exposed to various energies that may not be aligned with your own. As soon as it arrives to you it is best to cleanse it and align it to your needs and wants.

But how do you cleanse your crystal?

1, Moonlight/Full moon the most well-known cleansing method and one that has been practiced for centuries. The moon can cleanse crystals on a deep energetic level, and in particular a full moon can clear out any old energies and reset well-used stones. Collect your crystals, take them outside in the moonlight and lay them out. Ideally, place them on a natural surface like the earth or lawn but if this is not possible a balcony, deck, or even your windowsill will do. Ideally leave your crystals out overnight. If you can’t leave them out overnight, then even a few hours will do. This method of cleansing is excellent for all stones, especially those that are not suited to water cleansing.

2, Sunlight – This is an uncomplicated way to cleanse your crystals but be sure to check if your crystals are sun safe first. Stones that should avoid the sun include ametrine, aquamarine, amethyst, calcite, beryl, and citrine as they may lose their colour. As with moonlight cleansing, set your crystals out on a natural surface and allow them to bake in the solar energy. Ideally, if you put your stone out before nightfall and plan to bring it in before 11 a.m. the next day it will allow your stone to soak up the cleansing energies of both the moon and the sun. This is an ideal cleansing method for most tumbled stones.

3, Running water - Water will earth your crystals and neutralise any energies stored in them. Natural running water like a stream will work best but any flowing clean water will do, you could hold your crystal under a tap or even pour bottled water over it. Thoroughly saturate your crystal for at least one minute per stone while keeping your intentions focused in your mind. Gently pat dry afterwards. This method is ideal for harder stones like quartz. Remember not to do this with soft, porous, or fragile crystals like selenite, kyanite, and halite.

4, Salt water - Saltwater cleansing is an effective and thorough way to rid your crystals of any unwanted energy or negativity. If you live near the ocean, you can collect a bowl of fresh salt water, if not, you can add sea salt or rock salt to clean water and mix. Submerge and soak your crystals for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Rinse and dry afterwards. Remember not to use this method for brittle or porous crystals as it may cause them to break or dissolve.

5, Earth Enveloping crystals in the earth is an intense way of cleansing overworked stones that need a break to re-generate their healing energy. Find a spot in your garden that is quiet and undisturbed, mark the spot well and bury your crystals a few centimetres deep, making sure they are entirely covered by soil. Leave the crystals for around a week before digging up, rinse them off in clean water, and pat dry. An alternative method is to bury the stone in a pot of soil within your home, such as in a houseplant.

6, Brown rice - This method will draw out negativity in a safe and contained setting. It is especially beneficial for protective stones, such as black tourmaline. Place your crystal in a glass container of brown rice and leave overnight or 24 hours. It is best to completely cover the stone with the rice. Throw awayof the rice after the cleansing. This method is suitable for any crystal.

7, Sage/Smudging - The main way to cleanse crystals using sage is by a method called “smudging” which means using smoke from smouldering dried sage leaves in and around the energetic field surrounding your crystal to disperse the negative energy. Smudging takes time and preparation, and we will go more in-depth into this in a future blog.

Whichever cleansing method you choose, it is important to remember that physically cleansing your tribal crystals will restore the natural properties of the crystals, but it is just as important to recharge your tribal crystals with your own intentions. What would you like from your crystals? What area of life do you need support? What are your goals for the month? You might like to write your intentions down or just speak them aloud. Setting your intentions with crystals will be the topic of a future blog post.

The final step is to give thanks, express your gratitude to your crystals, and the universe.

As always, if you have any questions about your crystals or need advice about which crystals will best support you, please contact us.

With healing love and positive energy,
